Here's a spacey German electronic band with similarities to Legendary Pink Dots. Edward Ka-spel guests on this album and that's the primary reason to have it.
Darkstar is the project of German musician Wolfgang Reffert. "Travelogue II" is a reworked reissue of an album originally recorded from 1992 to 1994, with the participation of The Legendary Pink Dots, Technogod, and Gotz Adler.
This album is the result of collaborations that arose from friendships formed on tours and through other interests. Reffert met Edward Ka-Spel of the Legendary Pink Dots on a Skinny Puppy tour in 1988 where Ka-Spel opened as a solo act. Reffert was working as tour manager for the German concert agency booking the tour. He met Technogod the same way, when this quartet from Bologna, Italy supported the Young Gods in Italy and he was working as tour manager for the Swiss band. (One of the two tracks he recorded with Technogod appears on their last album in a reworked version). Gotz Adler was—and remains—an old friend. All of these collaborations were inspired by Reffert’s appreciation of the other participants, and a genuine belief that the process of collaboration and cooperation would, apart from being more fun, lead to a better result. We couldn’t agree more!!
On this reissue of "Travelogue" the last two tracks from the first version have been omitted. In their place four new tracks have been added. These pieces were originally intended for release on another full-length Dark Star album which unfortunately was never released. Again, these new tracks feature some collaborations with other musicians, namely Kurt Maninouk, Volkmar Miedtke, Wolfgang Baer, and (again) Gotz Adler, all from Freiburg, Germany, as well as Chilean Rodrigo Gonzalez, who plays bass with German pop-punksters Die Artze.
The cover of the album was created by noted French illustrator Moebius; the drawing has been taken from his cult comic book "The Airtight Garage of Jerry Cornelius" and is used with his kind permission
