Well, I have to say, I enjoy this collection a lot more than I should. Probably a lot more than is healthy. Frankly, I had just about given up on ol' Douglas P after the horrendous "All Pigs Must Die(t)" CD. Nevertheless, it looks like DIJ still may have some sparks left after all. While this is technically a collection of mostly 'old' tracks (largely reworked), there is a fresh (albeit foetid) breeze blowing though this disc. The song order follows an interesting progression, slithering its way through succesive DIJ obsessions in a cohesive yet mutating fashion. I may be the only living human that finds any trace of humor in DIJ's image, although it is admittedly a humor of the type that would consider "dead baby jokes" far too cheery. For example, the inside cover features a shot of Douglas P in all his expanding glory; the picture could have easily been cropped to disguise the obvious thickening of his waistline. Yet the shot instead appears to deliberately amplify his pear-shaped torso and twiglike arms - which contrasts quite amusingly with the cover shot of him in his fearsome mask clambering down from atop a tank. As for the sounds within? All I can say is, if you liked "The World Last Summer" or "Nada" or even "Operation Hummingbird" you should LOVE this one!!
