Ultra Milkmaids' soft and warm electronics blend with acoustic percussive noise by American duo V. Another definite winner reminding of UM's collaborations with Telepherique. Features one utterly haunting female vocal track.
This transatlantic collaboration CD comes from an unlikely pair of electronic music duos... While the Ultra Milkmaids (twin brothers Y. and R. Jaffiol) work with the latest piece of technology (laptops and digital signal processing) to manipulate and destroy their favorite guitar sounds, v. (Jeff Surak and James Guggino) refuse to give in and continue their longstanding tradition of using found objects, broken instruments, autoharp, hurdy gurdy, percussion, record players and other acoustic instruments. This clash of digital vs. analog gives "drone+unease" an interesting texture. The music itself is indescribable and falls somewhere between ambient dub, microsound/glitch and musique concrete, without subscribing to none. Long washes, chords, drones, digital clicks, loops and muddy rhythms are all present throughout the record.
